Chapter 13 discusses our countries need for higher-quality teachers. With the continuing pressures to reform schools, it is important for teachers to stay up to date with the most recent teaching qualifications. A high-quality schools is built off of high-quality teachers, and it is very important for prospective teachers to recognize that. High-quality teachers can be determined through the students grades and progress.
This course (EDC 102) taught me a lot about what my future as a teacher holds. It has introduced me to a wide variety of teaching techniques and has showed several that work, a long with several that do not work. From reading "Savage Inequalities" I learned a lot about the extremes in our country and the possible changes that need to be made in order to improve the nations educational systems. This class has made me excited and nervous to become a teacher. It is a lot of responsibility because a teacher is a person who changes lives. Elementary school teachers have a class full of children that are in a very important developmental stage in their lives. Although parents make a huge difference, a teacher can be just as big of a role model as a parents, and in some cases, even bigger. It is very important for teachers understand the role they play in society.
